My first home brew since back when I was at university. After becoming hooked on craft beer I decided I would love to start home brewing. Starting off with a kit brew is not craft brewing, but baby steps first.
My supportive wife, Joss, gave me a voucher for the Brewshop to kick start this journey and I purchased the Coopers DIY starter’s kit (yes I should have done more research or asked someone first!).
Notes
I followed the Cooper’s instructions – adding the can and sugar to 2ltrs of boiling water, mixing, topping up with cold water to a total volume of 23ltrs, then sprinkling on the yeast. Could not have been easier. I bottled 5 days later (clearly too keen and did not follow the instructions well).
Tasting Notes
Nice light colour, good head, a bit too fruity in flavour. But overall the beer was ok and good enough for me to say a success for my first brew.
With the little extra knowledge I have at the time of writing this (Feb 2012) the brew had not finished fermentation and the yeast was probably a bit old.
