Nearly one month on from Brew #1 and I have been reading about kit brewing and tips for improving them. The simplest was either use a can of malt extract for the sugars, or a second kit can – to produce a maltier less watery beer. Using a second kit can means you get the hops from the kit instead of using a can of un-hopped malt extract, so that was the plan for #2 as I love hoppy beer.
Notes
I made a mistake at the start thinking two cans would need twice the amount of boiling water. But even topping it up to 24ltrs with cold water it was still at 30deg C by time I pitched the yeast. It smelt very fruity so I was convinced this batch was going to be crap.
Tasting Notes
Wow not too bad, only 8 days in the fermenter and this was a nice malty beer – a total surprise after thinking the high pitching temp would have ruined it, as would the name “Lion”.
